ENTERPRISE RISK ASSESSMENT (ERA)

The SEC charged two former IHT advisors with misappropriating over $5 million from clients through inflated fees and unauthorized charges.

Clients’ credit cards and bank accounts were reportedly charged for personal luxury expenses and Ponzi-like payments under false pretenses.

Advisors allegedly fraudulently inflated advisory fees beyond what clients agreed to in writing.

One advisor was indicted for attempting to fabricate evidence and threaten witnesses during federal fraud investigations.

Identical twin advisors Adam S. Kaplan and Daniel E. Kaplan were central to multiple charges for fraud and misuse of client assets.

Allegations of unauthorized access to accounts and deceptive practices have raised concerns about internal oversight and client protection.

A wealth management firm is supposed to protect client money, especially for elderly clients who rely on advisors for trust and guidance. Situations involving unauthorized fees and misuse of funds really damage the credibility of the whole firm.
