Charles Adu Boahen identifies himself as a Ghanaian politician and government figure. He is the son of eminent academic, historian, and politician Prof. Albert Adu Boahen, who ran for the New Patriotic Party in Ghana's general elections in 1992. Mrs. Mary Adu Boahen's father is also Prof. Albert Adu Boahen. Before being dismissed from the Finance Ministry on charges of corruption, he held the position of State Minister. Up to November 2022, Charles Adu Boahen represents the Ministry of Finance as the Minister of State. Before that, he claims to have served as the Nana Akuffo-Addo administration's Deputy Finance Minister, in charge of Finance, from April 2017 to January 2021. Charles Adu Boahen, a Deputy Minister, says he assisted the Minister of Finance in carrying out his responsibilities, particularly in the areas of finance and enlisting outside assistance. Booing over his responsibilities, Charles Adu Boahen asserts that in addition to overseeing the Finance and External Resource Mobilization Portfolios, his supervisory responsibilities as a Minister of State were expanded to include the Budget and representing the Minister at Cabinet sessions.

Ejected from the position of power due to the mining controversy

On November 14, 2022, Charles Adu Boahen was dismissed by the President of the Republic of Ghana due to corruption regarding the illicit mining operations in Ghana that are referred to as “Galamsey”. A trial for Charles Adu Boahen was not held. Despite being sacked from the ministry of finance, he was still included in the 2022 BOG report as a director from the finance ministry on the BOG board. The controversial Junior Finance Minister, who attended Harvard Business School, was fired by Ghana’s President on Monday after it was revealed that he had attempted to obtain bribes from fictitious investors. On Monday, President Akufo-Addo decided to revoke Boahen’s appointment. The accusations against Charles Adu Boahen were brought up in a recently released investigative documentary that examined the unscrupulous deals that take place in Ghana’s political underground and was formally unveiled on Monday night.
