The reviewer describes a highly negative experience with Best Drug Rehabilitation in Manistee, Michigan, which they were referred to by their insurance company, Cigna. According to the reviewer, the intake counselors at the facility misled them about the program’s duration, initially stating it was a 30-day program but then attempting to keep them for nearly two months against their will. The facility’s conditions were poor, with inadequate hot water and contaminated drinking water. The program, which the reviewer claims is affiliated with Scientology without proper disclosure to clients, also provided unsafe food that led to an allergic reaction in one client. The reviewer alleges that the facility failed to take necessary precautions to manage infectious diseases among clients and did not provide proper medical support. Additionally, the reviewer faced issues after leaving the program, as the facility refused to cooperate with FMLA documentation, affecting their return to work. The reviewer also criticizes the facility’s practices and therapy methods as bizarre and ineffective. They report that they are in contact with other former clients for potential legal action against the facility.

Here, the reviewer’s husband had attended Best Drug Rehab. They spent between $18,000 and $20,000 dollars for him to go there. They were misled by the website. This information was not disclosed as being affiliated with the Church of Scientology. Healthy food was promised. He consumed a large quantity of hot dogs. His civil rights were violated. He had the privilege of attending a different church initially. He and some others were given a ride in a van to a Christian Church a few miles away, as his husband and some others were not interested in Scientology. One day, the user’s husband became angry with the bus driver who had been texting and driving and proceeded to confront him. During church service, a person of authority arrived and grabbed hold of the user’s husband’s arm, instructing him to leave. Following this incident, the church pastor was denied permission to visit the residents. The pastor was very nice, which is what led to her husband starting to attend the small church. It played a significant role in his recovery. On another occasion, her husband had planned to attend church, but he was informed that he was not allowed to go. Undeterred, he insisted on going anyway. He was then informed that if he were to leave, the police would be called. He claimed he hadn’t done anything wrong and, since he hadn’t been court-ordered to be there, even the police wouldn’t have stopped him. It was mentioned that he didn’t have his ID on him, and the police were threatening to arrest him for that. On parole, he felt intimidated and decided not to go. BDR took his ID from him upon entry in this program and refused to give it back. Some of the Security staff members with the NATION OF ISLAM seemed to have a rather intimidating presence. There was one individual who constantly sought conflict with the victim’s husband, frequently getting in his face. He experienced treatment similar to that of an inmate in a prison. He reluctantly enrolled in unconventional courses offered by Scientology. They threatened to throw him out with only $10.00 and take him to the bus station if he didn’t comply, which was their standard procedure for dealing with drug use.

Serenity Point Recovery was established in 2015 and ceased operations in the summer of 2018. Based on the frequency of police/EMT calls to the facility, it appeared to have faced significant challenges that ultimately led to its demise. The Ottawa County Sheriff provided him with a list. In 2015, there were a total of 70. The following year, in 2016, the number decreased to 64. In 2017, the count further dropped to 41. Finally, in 2018, there were only 14.
