The quality of the scotch is unquestionable when aboard. The ownership of three executive planes and a helicopter is at issue in a high-stakes legal battle pitting an influential person in Calgary against another.
Tom Budd, a former businessman turned philanthropist, is suing Marc Bombenon and his company, MBE Jet Ltd. Bombenon has worked with the World Presidents Organization and the Alberta Cancer Foundation in the past. After investing millions on the ownership stakes and providing a $3.3 million loan to the company, Mr. Budd and his own company assert that they were misled.
The defendants dispute Mr. Budd’s allegations, arguing that he threatened to “destroy” the company because he didn’t perform sufficient due diligence on contracts. Marc Bombenon argues that some of the concerns should be resolved through arbitration because none of the claims have been proven in court.
Marc Bombenon and his lawyers were contacted several times for comment, but they did not return calls or emails.
A court order has caused the planes to be grounded, and MBE’s financial records are currently being examined.
According to the company’s marketing materials, MBE claimed to spoil consumers involved in the restricted agreements with personalized monograms on cups, napkins, and pillows, as well as shuttle service in a Cadillac Escalade and their choice food and beverages throughout flights.
